Are Some of Your LexisNexis® Features Not Functioning Properly?
(August 20, 2004)

Recently, the Microsoft Corporation issued a service pack release for Windows XP® users designed to address security concerns affecting users of Internet Explorer 6 and the XP operating system. Included in the service pack are a firewall and a pop-up blocker that are defaulted to "on." This service pack may interfere with the following, as well as with other LexisNexis features:

  • The Print and Download functions
  • The "Get" button on the LexisNexis Get and Print feature
  • Installation of the print utility
  • LexisNexis® Company Dossier
  • The FastPrint feature button

If you are experiencing any of the above or other problems, please verify that the service pack has been installed on your computer by doing the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Help.
  3. Click "About Internet Explorer".

The Update Version on the fourth line will read "SP2".

To correct any problems you may be experiencing, add the LexisNexis research services as a "trusted site" using the following steps.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Click the Trusted Sites icon.
  6. Set the Security Level to Low.
  7. Click the Sites button.
  8. Remove the check from the "Require Server Verification" box. (This may be rechecked after adding the LexisNexis sites.)
  9. In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, enter *.lexis.com.
  10. Click "Add."
  11. Do the same for *.Lexisnexis.com, *.lexis-nexis.com, and *.nexis.com.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
  14. Close Internet Explorer.
  15. Re-open Internet Explorer.

NOTES: It is possible for the LexisNexis research services to have been added by your system administrator but not be visible in your Trusted sites list. To test this, open Internet Explorer and enter the following URLs one at a time in the address bar:

For each, after you type the address, look at the status bar in the bottom right of the browser window. If the status bar has a green circle with a white check in it, the site is already a Trusted site.

If you have added the LexisNexis domains as trusted sites prior to the installation of this service pack, the service pack will not overwrite the settings and you should see no effect.

If you continue to experience problems or have questions, contact LexisNexis Customer Support at 1-800-543-6862 for assistance.
