Using the “Help” link on www.lexis.com

If you encounter a new item or link on www.lexis.com, and would like to instantly know more about it, simply click on the Help link in the upper right hand corner of the LexisNexis Research System screen.  (It is next to the Sign-Off link, and has a ? mark next to it.)

The “Help” database has been expanded in recent years and is a robust database of information about the features on LexisNexis.  When you click on it, a dialog box is opened, which you can expand to fill your screen to get a sense of its depth and breadth. 

On the right, you can scroll through topics like Selecting a Source, Using Terms and Connectors or Using Natural Language. 

On the left is a pane that opens to display the Index.  You can scroll through the Index alphabetically, or you can change the view of the pane to be organized according to Contents by clicking on the word Contents at the top of the pane.  There is also a search box where you can input a word or phrase to be taken directly to that feature within the index. 

Example:
You know there is a way to combine sources across categories, and you want to be reminded about how to use that feature.  You link to “Help” and begin scrolling through the Index on the left.  There is an entry for “Combined sources.”  When you click on that, the pane on the right displays a description about this topic. 

If you used the search box and entered “combined,” you would have received two results: “Combined Sources” and “Tabbed Result Sets.”  Selecting either one of those would open the descriptions, also.
