LexisNexis API Branding Guidelines

This section explains our guidelines regarding the use of LexisNexis® brand, logo and other trademarks in conjunction with your registration as a LexisNexis API Developer.

LexisNexis® permits registered and approved third party developers ("you") to use certain LexisNexis brands and logos (the "LexisNexis Trademarks”) solely in conjunction with the applications, websites, or devices you build using the LexisNexis APIs (each an “Application”). Any additional usages are not permitted without express prior written consent from LexisNexis. The LexisNexis Trademarks can be used only as specified in these API Branding Guidelines (“Guidelines”). By using our platform, you agree to adhere to these Guidelines. If you have a separate agreement with LexisNexis that addresses your use of the LexisNexis Trademarks, that agreement shall supersede relevant sections of these Guidelines.

The LexisNexis Developer Platform allows you to bring data and logic from LexisNexis assets (like Martindale-Hubbell®) in to your Application. Your use of the Developer Platform is governed by the LexisNexis Developer License Agreement or such other agreement between you and LexisNexis.

Violations of your agreements with LexisNexis, including, but not limited to, these Guidelines may result in LexisNexis suspending or terminating your and your Application’s access to and usage of the LexisNexis Developer Platform, LexisNexis APIs, or the LexisNexis Trademarks, in addition to other legal remedies available to LexisNexis.  These Guidelines do not transfer or otherwise assign any ownership rights in the LexisNexis Trademarks to you.  Your use of the LexisNexis Trademarks is based on your proper and responsible use of the LexisNexis Trademarks.  LexisNexis reserves all rights not expressly identified herein.  Upon termination of your Developer License Agreement, you must immediately cease using the LexisNexis Trademarks and remove any LexisNexis Trademarks from your Application.

 I.      LexisNexis Logos

To provide our customers with the most consistent, optimal experience, please use the approved electronic files only when including the logo in your design layout.

As a Third Party Developer, you may download the logos shown below for use on your application.  You are not allowed to use any other LexisNexis logos aside from ones mentioned below, which can be downloaded from this page. Alt text on these logo should be ‘LexisNexis’ and the logo should be linked directly back http://www.lexisnexis.com.

The LexisNexis® logo consists of the signature and the Knowledge Burst. The logo should appear on all communications that are large enough to depict the masterbrand at its minimum size as shown below.

The logo can be scaled down to a minimum height of 0.3125”. Always maintain the logo’s aspect ratio when scaling up or down.

You can download a ZIP file containing the Portable Network Graphics (.png) or Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) file for logos.

  • LexisNexis logos

You must:

  • ensure the logo is of equal or greater prominence when used with other identifiers of LexisNexis content, but always smaller than you Application's logo
  • ensure sufficient contrast between the logo and its background
  • ensure that logo stands lone
  • maintain a minimum amount of space between the LexisNexis logo and other graphic or textual elements
  • preserve the integrity and clarity of the logo. For that a standard area of "clear space" should be maintained around the logo in all uses. The minimum clear space is defined as "1 1/2x".

You shouldn’t:

  • change the proportion of the knowledge Burst to the signature
  • distort in any way (e.g. apply a shadow, tilt, stretch, etc)
  • display the LexisNexis Trademarks in any manner that might imply a relationship or affiliation with, sponsorship, or endorsement by LexisNexis, beyond that relationship established by the API agreement and your use of certain LexisNexis data or use that can be reasonably interpreted to suggest that any content not provided by LexisNexis represents the views or opinions of LexisNexis or LexisNexis personnel
  • combine any LexisNexis Trademark with a name, trademark, brand, or logo of your Application or other products; for example, you may not name your Application, “LexisNexis Widget” or “Widget for LexisNexis”

II.  Use of the LexisNexis Product Name

You may use the LexisNexis product name and other words in connection with the logo to indicate that the content you are displaying comes from a specific LexisNexis product provided that:

  • the words displayed next to the logo are in a different font and color (in comparison to the LexisNexis logo), and preferably in black;
  • the LexisNexis master brand or product name, if used, is accompanied by either the ® or ™ symbol as required by these Guidelines

LexisNexis product names can appear below the LexisNexis logo, but cannot be "locked-up" with the logo.

III.   Attribution

When integrating the API into your website, you must feature the ‘Powered by…’ badge on any application splash or main screen or web page where the LexisNexis API has a presence. The badge should appear next to the location where the API implementation appears on the page. In addition, all badges on web pages must be clickable and link back to LexisNexis or a product of LexisNexis like http://www.lawyers.com  or http://www.martindale.com.

The badges are available below for download and use. You may resize the badges to an appropriate size for your application, but any badge that you display must be at least 105px by 30px. In addition, all badges must be displayed in a single color that is complimentary to the overall creative or surrounding.

Two versions of badges are shown below. All badges are transparent aside from their respective badge colors.

You can also download a ZIP file containing the Portable Network Graphics (.png) or Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) file for each of the badges.

Martindale-Hubbell Rating

Martindale-Hubbell Ratings are comprised of two sets of ratings for Lawyers and Law Firms - Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings which helps buyers of legal services identify, evaluate and select the most appropriate lawyer or law firm for a specific task at hand and Martindale-Hubbell Client Review Ratings which is a service that enables buyers and providers of legal services to provide and benefit from client feedback on a lawyer or firm.

Private Practice Lawyers, Corporate In-House Counsel and Judges review their Peers and thus generate a Peer Review Rating for other Lawyers. Law Firms do not receive a Peer Review Rating. As a result for Law firms we have Peer Review Firm Average Rating which is calculated by taking the average of the summary value of the Peer Rating for all Lawyers at the firm.

Clients review the Law Firms and Lawyers they have hired in past. As a result there are law firm level Client Review Rating and a Lawyer Level Client Review Rating. Additionally, we also have Client Review Firm Average Rating which is calculated by taking the average of 1) the Firm’s Client Review summary rating (if it exists) combined with 2) the summary ratings of all of the Client Rated Lawyers (if exist) at the firm. (No special weighting is given to the rating of the Firm over the Lawyers. If only a Firm Client Review exists, then that number alone is used. If only Lawyer review(s) exist then those are used).
