LexisNexis and Corporate Legal Times Announce the Winner of the Distinguished Legal Service Award DAYTON, OH, May 03, 2001 - LexisNexis, a premier legal and business information provider, and Corporate Legal Times, a monthly business magazine for in-house counsel, today announced that the Pro Bono Partnership is the May recipient of the Distinguished Legal Service Award, sponsored by Corporate Legal Times and LexisNexis. Based in White Plains, New York, the Pro Bono Partnership offers free business and legal services to community-based nonprofit organizations serving residents of disadvantaged communities. Its mission is to make it as easy and rewarding as possible for in-house and transactional attorneys to provide meaningful pro bono services. Over the last few years, the Partnership has effectively connected the expertise and experience of approximately 300 attorneys from over 100 companies and law firms with hundreds of nonprofit organizations. Upon learning of the Partnership’s goals, LexisNexis offered it access to its legal information services free of charge. The extensive resources proved invaluable to helping the Partnership evolve to a higher level of technological sophistication. “The Pro Bono Partnership is extremely proud to receive the LexisNexis and Corporate Legal Times Distinguished Service Award and would like to thank LexisNexis for its recognition as well as the free access to its online legal information services that it provides to our legal staff. We could not otherwise afford these services which serve as our primary legal resource and play an important role in our ability to provide quality legal services to nonprofit organizations,” stated Richard S. Hobish, executive director of the Pro Bono Partnership. “So, while we are very honored to receive this award, we also wish to recognize and applaud LexisNexis for its vision and contribution to the community.” The Distinguished Legal Service Award is a monthly award given to “attorneys who demonstrate their commitment to quality, service and innovation and who exhibit superb legal service to their firms, corporations, and/or communities,” stated Scott Sessler, Senior Director of Strategic Marketing for LexisNexis Corporate and Federal Markets. “The Pro Bono Partnership has shown its supreme commitment to community in its successful union of quality legal representation with those who otherwise could not afford it.” Past recipients of the award include attorneys who designed a campaign for a large corporation to attract and retain women employees, attorneys who challenged an obscure state rule that could have prevented in-house counsel from representing their corporate clients in court and an attorney who took a public stand in support of a university affirmative action policy. Nominees for the Distinguished Legal Service Award are judged by a panel comprised of representatives from LexisNexis and Corporate Legal Times. Winners receive a full-page profile in Corporate Legal Times. Nominations can be submitted to Mona Syring, Distinguished Legal Service Award, Corporate Legal Times, 656 West Randolph Street, Suite 500 East, Chicago, Ill, 60661 or via email at msyring@cltmag.com.
