LexisNexis™ CourtLink® Adds Access to Los Angeles County, Virginia and Ohio Courts; Enhances Search of New York Content Via CourtLink® eAccess Service

ORLANDO, FL, July 22, 2002 - LexisNexis™ CourtLink® today announced plans to substantially expand its services for legal and business professionals, including providing online access to case records from Los Angeles County Superior Court, the nation’s most populous county, via the CourtLink® eAccess service. In addition, LexisNexis CourtLink will increase access to courts in a key state, Virginia, and enhance valuable search functionality to New York State general jurisdiction trial courts, known as the NY State Supreme Courts.

LexisNexis CourtLink made the announcement at the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) annual conference, Orlando, FL.

The expansion brings even greater court coverage and service to legal professionals who search, retrieve and file tens of thousands of legal documents daily in the United States. LexisNexis CourtLink pioneered its powerful Alert, Track, Search and Retrieve technologies that enable professionals to search with depth and precision across multiple state courts from a single source.  The Company has been on an aggressive expansion program, launching online access to new courts via the CourtLink eAccess service at an average rate of one new court a day for the first half of 2002.

LexisNexis CourtLink said it is providing online access and robust search capabilities to the following courts:

  • Enhancements to the New York service will provide customers with the ability to conduct deeper and more focused searches across the New York State courts.  In addition, the enhancements will provide customers the ability to receive automatic email alerts when new, relevant cases are filed.
  • The CourtLink eAccess service now provides access to Virginia chancery, criminal and law cases in an additional 27 Circuit Courts, bringing the total number of Virginia Circuit Courts available via the service to an unparalleled 81 courts.  When combined with the existing statewide coverage of 133 Virginia District Courts, the CourtLink eAccess service becomes the only source for searching within both limited and general jurisdiction Virginia trial courts.
  • LexisNexis CourtLink will expand its coverage this summer in Ohio, adding 12 general jurisdiction Courts of Common Pleas.  The new Ohio courts serve five million people in Ohio’s major metropolitan centers.
“The addition of the Los Angeles, Virginia and Ohio courts means that legal and business professionals serving clients in jurisdictions covering 38 percent of the U.S. population can interact with their local court systems in the most cost-effective and efficient manner possible today,” said Michele Vivona, chief operating officer, LexisNexis CourtLink.

“With over 4,000 federal and state courts already available through our CourtLink eAccess service, LexisNexis CourtLink is continuing to work with courts across our nation to bring court records online in a searchable manner.”  Vivona continued, “CourtLink eAccess empowers legal and business professionals to unlock the full potential of court record information, and to translate that information into meaningful intelligence that fully completes the workflow cycle of the legal professional and enables businesses to operate with an entirely new level of knowledge”.

“The ability to search court records across courts and states with our advanced search tools empowers legal and business professionals to conduct business with the courts with new levels of comprehension, authority and accuracy,” Vivona said.
