LexisNexis Attains Security Certification From TruSecure Corporation
Information services effectively manages security risk through stringent program

DAYTON, OH, August 12, 2002 - LexisNexis has achieved TruSecure Corporation’s Perimeter Security Certification by successfully completing extensive information security assurance compliance validation for the LexisNexis Data Center, housing more than 4 billion documents comprising the LexisNexis™ information services.

0534.aspTruSecure certification, a gold standard for essential best practices in network and information security, confirms that LexisNexis is effectively managing information security risk, ensuring that LexisNexis information services continue to provide high levels of integrity, confidentiality and availability to customers throughout the world, according to an announcement by both companies today.

“Providing industry-leading services that drive confident decision-making by our legal, business and government customers is our business. None of that is possible without providing a secure, reliable network and a zero-tolerance for the corruption or loss of mission-critical data by malicious code exploits or human error,” said Allan McLaughlin, chief technology officer for LexisNexis Group.

“LexisNexis has sought third-party validation and expertise in assessing its systems security in light of the increasing prevalence of threats to corporations worldwide,” said Leo Cronin, senior director of information security. “TruSecure offers our customers another layer of assurance that we are committed to having the most stringent information security risk management services available within the industry.”

“We are enabling LexisNexis to leverage the people and products already in place to improve its return on investment in security measures so that it can focus on its core business competencies,” said Peter Horst, senior vice president of TruSecure in Herndon, Virginia. “As a TruSecure Certified customer, LexisNexis has had its security controls, policies and procedures examined, measured and validated against a stringent set of essential practices as defined by TruSecure Corporation.”

The TruSecure Perimeter service is an integrated security program addressing the most significant sources of external risk. It provides security assurance in six major areas: electronic threats and vulnerabilities; malicious code; privacy; physical security; system availability; and human factors.

The LexisNexis Data Center is one of the largest of its kind in the United States.  The complex operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. It consists of networked servers, software and telecommunications equipment that are the backbone for a wide range of LexisNexis™ products and services, as well as the host to customer data and other Reed Elsevier services, such as Elsevier Science Direct.

In addition, it serves the internal needs of LexisNexis Group for application development, testing, certification and administrative services.
