LexisNexis™ Debuts Offline Court Document Investigative Tool for Insurance Industry
Investigators can obtain records from virtually any county court – even those offline

DAYTON, OH, August 28, 2002 - LexisNexis™ today announced a new tool for its suite of insurance investigation products which gives customers the ability to submit online orders for the delivery of offline civil and criminal docket information from virtually any county court in the United States

LexisNexis Offline Civil & Criminal Court Records will debut at the International Association of Special Investigators Unit (IASIU) trade show opening September 8 in Albuquerque, NM.

“LexisNexis has long been helping insurance companies efficiently and effectively conduct investigations that are critical to the profitability of their businesses,” said Seth Perlmutter, Vice President of Insurance Services. “Now LexisNexis is changing the way the industry investigates its claims.  In addition to our new offline criminal and civil searches we have also introduced online access to federal criminal and civil records as well as OFAC data.  This along with our full text searching, national and local news databases and flexible pricing options provide the tools necessary to go where no SIU’s have gone before.”
Potential applications of the Offline Civil & Criminal Records include:

  • Identifying the possible criminal history of the subject of an investigation, a policy holder, claimant or witness.
  • Verifying the accuracy and veracity of information provided by a claimant or witness.
  • Discovering evidence of financial distress that might indicate a motive for fraud.
  • Uncovering evidence indicating multiple claim activity for a single incident or injury.

The new offline capability enhances LexisNexis’ already robust Insurance Solutions product which provides users with the most exhaustive set of public records available for locating, verifying and validating information about people and businesses, identifying assets, aliases and affiliations, uncovering judgments and liens and ordering complete civil and criminal background checks.
The LexisNexis Insurance Solutions services also have direct links to other LexisNexis risk management services, including:

  • The National Fraud Center Inc. – internationally recognized consultants in fraud and identity theft.
  • RiskWise – automated risk management solutions for identification validation and fraud risk-scoring.
  • PeopleWise – pre-employment screening and real-time applicant-identity verification.
