LexisNexis Introduces First Integrated Practice Management System for New York Lawyers

DAYTON, OH, September 19, 2002 - LexisNexis™, the global leader in legal, news and business information services, introduced today the first complete practice-management product designed specifically to help New York trial lawyers organize client and case information, legal research, documents, communications and appointments using the LexisNexis™ edition of Time Matters® software.

The power and reach of the LexisNexis™ edition of Time Matters practice-management software have been integrated throughout the practice of law in New York by combining and customizing several products from the LexisNexis Group. The LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms powered by Time Matters combines the award-winning practice management system with the power of the LexisNexis legal research system, nearly 1,000 Matthew Bender® forms, and HotDocs® document automation in an intuitive desktop application.

“Only LexisNexis offers attorneys an integrated system with practice management, forms assembly, LexisNexis legal research and New York-specific information relevant to civil litigators. The LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms powered by Time Matters centralizes the information, research, documents and calendaring a law firm needs in order to effectively, efficiently and profitably practice law in New York,” said Ken Crutchfield, vice president and chief operating officer Desktop Applications for LexisNexis.

The pioneering drive by LexisNexis to offer an integrated practice management system began in April 2001 when the company introduced the LexisNexis edition of Time Matters, which was the first practice management system to allow users to conduct legal research through Time Matters software. LexisNexis established an alliance with the maker of Time Matters, DATATXT Corp., in January 2001.

Now, in less than two years, The LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms provides a new level of customization and integration. The New York product is the first of several integrated products to be introduced based on jurisdiction and practice area. The company plans to introduce additional products over the course of the next several months.

The new LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms will help attorneys better manage time, documents and research from the moment a new matter is created to the time it is closed. New York-specific form styles with a host of fields directly mapped to the forms, automated timetables based on the CPLR, customized contact records for the New York courts containing relevant addresses and telephone numbers, and automated court-specific captions are designed to save time and effort implementing the software. In some cases, the time otherwise needed to customize and integrate these features could be hundreds of hours.

With the LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms lawyers can better track all critical deadlines and processes involved in civil matters. For example, the system will automatically track when a discovery request was sent and when information was received. It also creates ToDos and Events to help attorneys plan work flow and track critical legal filing dates. Throughout the course of any matter, users can view a snapshot of the status.

New York CPLR timetables provide information on filing requirements and deadlines and may be coordinated with a firm’s calendar and appointment schedule. Email communications, completed Matthew Bender forms and LexisNexis research history pertaining to a particular case can be stored according to client or matter.

The LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms includes the newly introduced Research Manager. Research Manager allows the user to create, annotate and save a direct link between a case matter and research results from LexisNexis, including LexisNexis Case Summaries, Shepard’s® Citations Service, the Web’s most extensive collection of public records, and authoritative analytical content from Matthew Bender®, Michie™ and Mealey’s.

The new LexisNexis New York Feature Package with New York Civil Litigation Forms is an add-on module to the basic LexisNexis Edition of Time Matters (version 4.0, SR 3). It features unmatched integration of LexisNexis legal research products and Time Matters software to offer unique advantages to a range of New York litigators, from sole practitioners to law firms with hundreds of attorneys.
