NEW YORK, NY, February 04, 2004 - LexisNexis Group, a global leader in legal, news and business information, today announced the appointment of James Peck as senior vice president and chief operating officer, Risk Management group, in the company’s Corporate and Federal Markets (CFM) unit. In addition, Amy Bloebaum, vice president, Product Technology and Infrastructure, was promoted to senior vice president and chief product officer, Global Electronic Product Development (GEPD), succeeding Peck in the position. Both appointments are effective March 1, 2004.

LexisNexis is a member of the Reed Elsevier Group plc, a world-leading publisher and information provider. Peck succeeds Chris Jones, currently senior vice president of Risk Management for CFM, who is moving to a new position within Reed Elsevier.

"One of the strengths of LexisNexis Group is the talent of our people. We are very fortunate to have strong leadership and depth of talent, which benefit both LexisNexis and Reed Elsevier," said Prozes. "The launch of our global technology platform in December is evidence of the excellent job Jim Peck has done in leading GEPD during the past several years. His leadership skills and ability to merge market needs with technology solutions will serve the Risk Management business well. It has been my pleasure to work directly with Jim during this time."

Peck will report to Kurt Sanford, president and chief executive officer of CFM. The LexisNexis Risk Management unit is a leading innovator in validating and verifying identity with information-based products and services that help companies, financial service organizations, law enforcement and government agencies uncover fraudulent transactions, prevent identity theft, prosecute criminals, and make intelligent hiring decisions.

Prior to his current position at LexisNexis, Peck was the senior vice president of Product Development with Celera Genomics, a bio-technology firm. After joining Celera in 1999, he led construction of a new online system containing information about human genetics deployed in task-based applications for research scientists, delivered via the Internet.

Peck previously spent a decade at LexisNexis companies as an engineer, then manager and director in building data and operating editorial systems. He has extensive experience in product design and has led teams that designed and built all the components of the lexis.com® research system, including Core Terms, Search Advisor, Core Concepts, case law summaries, and legislative linking. Peck also headed creation of a new editorial publishing system for the summaries and launched the summaries operations that now employ 700 full-time lawyer-editors.

He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Dayton in management information systems, and a master’s in business administration from The Ohio State University.

Bloebaum will manage a group of employees who are charged with designing and enhancing LexisNexis’ global platform technology, which allows the company to bring superior local legal and news and business research products to market. In addition, the unit is charged with enhancing flagship information services, as well as expanding the company’s new generation of client development, litigation support, e-solutions and information products for the United States and other markets.

Bloebaum joined LexisNexis in 1988 as a software engineer and has held numerous management positions, such as director and senior director of Product Engineering and vice president of Product Engineering, where she managed the development, testing and deployment for online information products. Bloebaum has a bachelor of science in applied science from Miami University and resides in Dayton, Ohio. She will report to Andrew Prozes, chief executive officer of LexisNexis Group and a Reed Elsevier board member.

"Amy brings a deep understanding of our online system and an impressive track record for delivering superior products for the benefit of our customers. Her extensive work with our global technology platform, LexisNexis Total Search, our new knowledge management product, and several significant enhancements to our flagship legal research product will serve Amy well in this new role," said Prozes.
