LexisNexis Librarian Relations Group Hosts Delegation of Russian Librarians, Information Specialists
Russian team visits industry leader in library science leadership and service
DAYTON, OH, June 29, 2004 - Further illustrating its leadership and service to law firm librarians as well as information specialists in courts, law schools and government agencies, the LexisNexis Librarian Relations Group recently hosted a group of librarians and information specialists from Russia as part of the International Visitors Council’s (IVC) “Open Access to Online Information” program.
As part of their visit, the Russian librarians and information specialists and their accompanying translators learned about LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of legal, news and business information, as well as how the company’s global service provides information to academics, legal professionals and members of the general public. These librarians are managers of the American sections of several major libraries in Russia.
"Upon planning the itinerary for these library leaders, the International Visitors Council was quick to contact LexisNexis, which is well-recognized as a leading resource for librarians in the United States," said Cindy Spohr, senior director, LexisNexis Librarian Relations Group. "Our dedicated team of Librarian Relations Consultants were able to put together a valuable program for the group, detailing our service and product offerings as well as our global reach.
"The librarians were greatly intrigued by the information presented to them, and we’re pleased that LexisNexis and the Librarian Relations Group could be a part of this very special visit," added Spohr.
The delegation of Russian library leaders visited other major points of interest to the library sciences field throughout the United States, and was in the Ohio Valley as part of the IVC’s International Visitors Program conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The goal of the program, which was coordinated through the Columbus bureau of the IVC, is to expose participants to online methods for the dissemination of information and examine new trends in library science technology.
Since 1965, the International Visitors Council has been building partnerships between Central Ohioans and citizens of other countries that strengthen democratic ideals, encourage economic development, and promote cultural understanding through the exchange of ideas and knowledge. Over 200 emerging world leaders from more than 50 countries visit Central Ohio annually to meet with their professional counterparts. Upon returning to their home country, they implement these ideas to strengthen their society and make it a safer world in which to trade, study and travel.
