Stites & Harbison to Partner in Development of LexisNexis Total Search
Knowledge-sharing technology will use the Web and lexis.com® to manage law firm document content
DAYTON, OH, October 18, 2004 - LexisNexis U.S. today announced that it has selected Stites & Harbison PLLC to partner in the enhancement and expansion of LexisNexis® Total Search, an integrated knowledge management application that promises to enhance the ability of the firm to take full advantage of its intellectual capital.
Stites & Harbison is one of several firms participating nationally in this product rollout, managed by LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news and business information services. Firms from all regions of the country are participating, including:
- Squire Sanders & Dempsey, Cleveland
- Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan, Los Angeles
- Becker & Poliakoff, Florida
- Holme Roberts & Owen, Denver
LexisNexis Total Search is a Web browser-based application. It will allow Stites & Harbison's staff and attorneys to build on existing, proven resources by simultaneously searching the lexis.com® service and accessing the law firm's prior internal work product developed across the firm's eight offices. The new product being developed is an extension of the LexisNexis® Total Research System.
"Total Search is the next logical step in a technological progression that will revolutionize the way large firms such as ours serve their clients," said Kennedy Helm III, chairman of Stites & Harbison. "We're honored to have been selected by LexisNexis, one of the most trusted names in the legal world, for this rollout effort and proud about what that selection says about our firm's commitment to the use of cutting-edge technology."
Here's a closer look at how LexisNexis Total Search works and its features:
- Using LexisNexis Total Search, Stites & Harbison's attorneys and staff can seamlessly search a topic or key word within the firm's own files - including existing pleadings, transactional materials, memoranda, motions, and the like - at the same time they search lexis.com for similar information.
- The results of this single search are confidentially and securely delivered to the user, who can easily review and navigate the results regardless of their source.
- LexisNexis Total Search has the ability to cross-reference and integrate the content of the firm's files with information available through lexis.com, including news, business and financial materials as well as court cases and legal codes. This means, for example, that when one of the firm's lawyers cites a court case in an internal work product, LexisNexis Total Search identifies it along with a link to the citing document.
The result is a more efficient and productive way to conduct legal research and to draft documents.
"At LexisNexis, we recognize the importance of technology that delivers on the promise of creating value for law firms while capitalizing on our heritage of providing trusted and relevant information that supports our customers' needs," said Jeff Pfeifer, senior vice president, LexisNexis. "LexisNexis Total Search will help Stites & Harbison swiftly and securely locate on-point documents in the firm's document collections - as easily as case law, news and public records searches on the LexisNexis service."
Pfeifer added that LexisNexis Total Search also would help the firm save time, eliminate costly duplication of effort, and ensure the validity of law through integrated Shepard's® Citations. "With LexisNexis Total Search, Stites & Harbison will be able to truly leverage the firm's work product and current technologies."
LexisNexis Total Search is one of several superior products and services offered by LexisNexis that go beyond traditional legal research. These include tools for electronic discovery, electronic filing and court document retrieval, business development, time and billing management, and disaster recovery and system hosting capabilities.
