DAYTON, OH, October 27, 2004 - LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of legal, news, public records and business information services, announced today it has been selected to create and maintain an information system for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Under the contract terms, LexisNexis will create and maintain a Web-enabled, Web-accessible, fully searchable database for the storage and retrieval of CFTC's historic legislative documents. This new award continues a relationship that began in 1979.

"Not only will this electronic database make it easier for us to search and retrieve information, it will also protect our legislative history, preserving this data for the future," said Daniel May, librarian, CFTC. "In fact, the CFTC will be among one of the first agencies to implement electronic storage of legislative documents."

The Reed Technology and Information Services (RTIS) business unit of LexisNexis will be providing the high volume, high quality information capture, indexing and management services required by the contract.

"LexisNexis is proud to work with CFTC to provide a solution that both protects this valuable data and uses technology to the fullest, a key in the ongoing E-Government Initiative," said RTIS President Sam Hardman, LexisNexis.

During a nearly 35-year relationship, RTIS has provided similar services to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Under the recently renewed Patent Data Capture contract, RTIS will continue to capture, manage and prepare for publication patent applications submitted to the USPTO over the next seven years.

"The CFTC award along with our ongoing Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Courts, Department of Justice, and other Federal contracts further reinforces LexisNexis as a best value provider to the Federal Government for both information and solutions beyond research," said Clemens Ceipek, senior vice president, LexisNexis Corporate and Public Markets.
