PITTSBURGH AND DAYTON, OH, February 07, 2005 - Reed Smith LLP, a leading global law firm, today announced it has selected LexisNexis U.S. to provide co-location and related managed communication services for the firm’s entire data network. As part of the agreement, LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news and business information services, will host Reed Smith data within its award-winning LexisNexis Data Center. Through the LexisNexis® Data Backup and Recovery Service, the firm will be provided with reliable, secure and cost-effective data center access as well as business continuity services.

"At Reed Smith, we firmly believe that what we do is not just business – it’s personal. It’s for this very reason that we chose to place our data network with industry-leader LexisNexis, whose experience and reliability in data security can deliver the ultimate value to our clients," said Gary Sokulski, Chief Operating Officer, Reed Smith. "This agreement between our companies helps ensure that Reed Smith is not only there for our clients when they need us, but that we also can deliver the data and information they need simply and securely."

The LexisNexis Data Center is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world, serving businesses in over 100 countries and boasting greater than 99.99 percent availability. The center’s hardware, software and electrical/mechanical systems are engineered with multiple levels of redundancy to provide uninterrupted service in the event a single component fails. The systems are tested and maintained routinely to ensure they perform properly in case of an emergency. In addition, all critical data is copied and stored off-site and emergency business-resumption plans are tested multiple times per year.

"For decades, LexisNexis has used advanced systems to provide tailored legal information services. Today, we meet a wider range of information needs – beyond legal research – with flexible data storage, data protection, and systems-hosting programs for law practices," said Allan McLaughlin, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, LexisNexis. "We are excited to be providing these reliable, proven and highly trusted services to Reed Smith and look forward to working closely with the firm to help ensure its clients are completely satisfied."
