DAYTON, OH, March 30, 2005 - LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of legal, news and business information services, announced it has convened a working group of independent private sector and public interest thought leaders who have come together to discuss the important issues surrounding government use of commercial data and the challenges of information sharing in support of homeland security and risk assessment for counterterrorism. The group held its first meeting on February 17th in Washington, DC.

"The policy initiatives mandated in Section 1016 of the Intelligence Reform Act underscore the crucial need for clearly expressed rules and policies concerning government access to and use of private sector data," said Thomas Regan, LexisNexis Executive Director for Privacy and Regulatory Affairs. "In order to identify the core issues involved in developing effective and practical policies and rules regarding how private sector information can be shared with the government, it is imperative that we engage in a full discussion to understand how to enhance public safety and homeland security while simultaneously protecting privacy and civil liberties."
