WASHINGTON, DC, September 25, 2005 - LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news, business information and risk management services, announced today at the Annual Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police that it has upgraded Accurint® LE Plus, its advanced analytical client application, to enable law enforcement analysts to search, locate and map addresses for sexual offenders.

Statistics show that sex offenders pose a high risk of re-offending after their release from custody. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that released sex offenders are four times as likely to be rearrested for the same or similar crimes as are other types of offenders. Locating the over 550,000 sexual offenders nationwide is also a significant problem. A recent study by Parents for Megan’s Law found that 24 percent of registered sex offenders are failing to comply with residency requirements.

"Accurint LE Plus with Advanced Sex Offender Search capabilities will help law enforcement agencies work more quickly and efficiently when investigating child abduction cases," said Sal Hernandez, vice president of law enforcement programs for LexisNexis Government Services. "This tool will enable law enforcement to locate sex offenders even if they have not reported their most current address to the appropriate authorities."

Accurint LE Plus is a powerful desktop application built on the same technology as the Web-based Accurint and Accurint LE products already used by over 6,000 law enforcement and government agencies. In addition to enabling users to rapidly access billions of public records, Accurint LE Plus seamlessly integrates all the analyst’s mission-critical tools, such as visual link analysis, real-time batching and enhanced mapping into one, easy-to-use desktop application.

"We want to give law enforcement the advanced tools that they need to improve the odds that missing and abducted children will be safely reunited with their parents," said James Peck, CEO for Risk Management at LexisNexis. "Recent tragic cases highlighted in the media demonstrate the need to focus on the serious problem of identifying and locating sexual offenders. We are committed to working with the government, law enforcement and child advocacy groups in doing our part to help keep our children safe from sexual predators."
