DAYTON, OH, November 29, 2005 - To further expand and enhance information sharing and content management capabilities, Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland LLP, a leading appellate law firm based in Los Angeles, today selected LexisNexis® Total Search. LexisNexis Total Search is a Web browser-based application that allows legal professionals to search the lexis.com® service and a law firm’s internal work product simultaneously.

Developed by LexisNexis® U.S., a leading provider of legal, news and business information services, LexisNexis Total Search helps users at Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland to better deliver the highest quality work product to colleagues and clients more efficiently. LexisNexis Total Search makes this possible by further maximizing the use of Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland’s internal work product without changing current work practices or beginning the process over each time.

LexisNexis Total Search allows firm users to capitalize upon the precision searching capabilities of the lexis.com service to not only search LexisNexis databases but also the firm’s internal collection of best and most-relevant work product, all with intelligent linking between internal and LexisNexis content. With the added integration of real-time Shepard’s® Signal indicators to both internal and external documents, LexisNexis Total Search assures users of the authority in these search results. Plus, with its short deployment time and ease-of-use, LexisNexis Total Search allows end users to get up and running with minimal training.

"LexisNexis Total Search is the research tool we’ve been looking for," said Martin Stein, senior partner at Greines Martin Stein & Richland LLP. "Over the past 20 years, our firm has produced thousands of appellate briefs, opinion letters and insurance coverage opinions, but accessing them in a meaningful way was always a challenge. With Total Search’s familiar lexis.com search interface and the built-in Shepard’s Citation Service, ready access to and updating of these valuable materials for our attorneys and clients have finally become a reality."

LexisNexis Total Search v. 3.1 – the latest version of the application – also provides enhanced ease-of-use for Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland end-users, enabling them to:

  • Cross-reference non-case law, non-law review/journal citations, including statute citations and covering patents, constitutions and other citation types
  • Highlight and jump from search term to search term appearing in the search result set
  • View abbreviated versions of large documents with links to the full documents
"By selecting LexisNexis Total Search, users at Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland will be able to more efficiently and effectively meet the needs of its vast client base while preserving the firm’s collective intellectual property," said Joe Swimmer, vice president, LexisNexis Total Search. "The firm’s use of LexisNexis Total Search takes them one step closer to a total practice solution that will create efficiencies throughout firm operations and business activities."

The prominence of LexisNexis Total Search in the legal industry has been recognized by several leading industry organizations. Most recently, the application was awarded the 2005 CODiE Award for the Best Solution Integrating Content into an Application. Additional awards and recognitions include being named a finalist for the 2005 "Favorite New Legal Product" TechnoLawyer @ Award; the 2003 Basex Excellence Award, which recognized LexisNexis Total Search for leadership and technological innovation in the field of Collaborative Business Knowledge; and two consecutive placements on the KMWorld list of "100 Companies that Matter in Knowledge Management."
