DAYTON, OH, May 24, 2006 - LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of legal, news and business information services, garnered another prestigious industry award from the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA). LexisNexis® Total Search, the company’s information and content management tool, was named “Best Business Intelligence or Knowledge Management Solution” at the SIIA’s 21st annual CODiE Awards gala, held in San Francisco May 16. This recognition is the second CODiE awarded to Total Search by the SIIA in as many years for this leading content delivery and integration solution.

CODiE awards are given annually by the SIIA to recognize leaders and innovators in software, digital content and education technology. This year’s winners were chosen from a field of more than 1,025 nominations—the most nominations in the history of the program. Judges for the first round of voting include journalists from industry trade publications, technology writers from mainstream publications, consultants and industry experts. SIIA member companies vote in the second round of selection.

"The software and information industry continues to move at a breakneck pace. Being recognized by your peers for getting to and staying at the head of the pack in such a dynamic environment is a major accomplishment, and is one of the reasons why the CODiE Awards hold such a special place in our industry," said Ken Wasch, president of SIIA.

LexisNexis Total Search is an advanced work product retrieval solution designed to uncover both LexisNexis content and prior work product from a firm’s internal collections. Integration between internal content and LexisNexis analytical and primary law materials further enhance the legal professional’s experience, and the integration of real-time Shepard’s Signal indicators assures legal professionals that their arguments rely on only the most authoritative and valid precedent.

Joe Swimmer, senior director of Total Search, heralded the 2006 CODiE award as confirmation that LexisNexis is indeed meeting the business—as well as the information and content management—needs of today’s law practices. "Law firm leaders are realizing that they need to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of their legal professionals if they are to compete successfully in today’s environment," he said. "Total Search is an evolutionary leap in attorneys’ ability to find, validate and reuse the prior work product and best thinking from within their firm.

"Further, with the deep integration of content, firms are assured that they can put their most valuable resources—their human capital—to better use. LexisNexis is pleased to continue helping lawyers and law firms succeed in the business and practice of law with innovative solutions like Total Search," added Swimmer.

The "Best Business Intelligence or Knowledge Management Solution" CODiE is one of several honors bestowed upon LexisNexis Total Search since its introduction to the legal community in July 2003. Other recognition includes the 2003 Basex Excellence Award for leadership and technological innovation in the field of Collaborative Business Knowledge; the 2005 CODiE Award for "Best Solution Integrating Content into an Application"; and consecutive placements on the KMWorld list of "100 Companies that Matter in Knowledge Management."
