LexisNexis and NetDocuments Announce Email Management Services; Now Provide Total Package in Document Services
Synchronization technology for Outlook now allows single repository for document management, extranets, records and email management
DAYTON, OH, August 21, 2006 - LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of information and services solutions, and NetDocuments, the leading hosted document services provider, have launched a new service that will allow law firms to better manage and archive email. With the addition of email management to NetDocuments® from the LexisNexis® document management system, law firms now have a single place to capture, store, organize, archive, and manage emails, documents and records.
The new service includes an innovative approach to synchronizing emails from Microsoft® Outlook, without requiring invasive integration software injected into the email system; and without requiring network connectivity as other document management systems do. This new paradigm for capturing emails as records in a central records management repository becomes a much simpler, user-friendly approach to email management for law firms of all sizes.
NetDocuments from LexisNexis Email Management Services encompasses three areas of focus: 1) archiving services allowing Exchange servers to immediately become "slimmed down" to relieve this common IT administrative burden and cost, 2) capturing emails as records on a ongoing basis as determined and controlled by users—thus avoiding spam and irrelevant email; and 3) providing automatic profiling and classifying of emails, e.g. client and matter for law firms, in the same way as documents, images and records are stored in the central, globally accessible repository.
Emails retain their native MSG format and the full capability of being acted upon by Outlook for forwarding, replying, etc., even though the messages are stored in NetDocuments from LexisNexis and no longer in Exchange. Email messages and attachments are full-text searchable, users can file emails in Outlook offline, and Blackberry® or Treo® devices are supported.
"This breakthrough technology allows our customers to quickly reduce their massive email storage, without purchasing additional hardware, software and disk storage, and captures relevant emails and attachments into a secure tamper-proof repository without doing any more work they would normally do," said Kenneth W. Duncan, CEO, NetDocuments. "Our customers will save tremendous resources which can be directed to more strategic purposes within the organization and at the same time offer a more secure, reliable and globally accessible business continuity solution for emails, documents and records."
