LexisNexis Releases Congressional Hearings Digital Collection
New collection provides researchers access to more than 170 years of congressional hearings all under one roof
DAYTON, OH, January 16, 2007 - LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of information and services solutions, is releasing the LexisNexis® Congressional Hearings Digital Collection (www.lexisnexis.com/hearings). The new collection provides access to both published and unpublished hearings from 1824 to present. Now that researchers can easily search over 170 years of information they are able to get a new perspective on a wide variety of topics of interest.
“There is a real need for improved access to congressional hearings within the academic community, which no one else has fully addressed. Our customers have also asked us to provide complementary content to the LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set and Congressional Research Digital Collections, and essentially provide a single, powerful resource for congressional information. Adding digitized Congressional hearings to our web-based archives fulfills these needs and supports student and faculty research across the disciplines,” said Tim Fusco, Vice President of Publishing Operations for LexisNexis Government and Academic Markets.
State-of-the-art indexing from LexisNexis provides both precise results and the flexibility of full-text searching . Users can retrieve targeted results by searching abstracts, bill numbers, committees, controlled subject headings, hearing numbers, public law numbers, Statutes at Large citations, titles, or witnesses and affiliations, or they can expand their search to the full-text of each document. Searches can be limited by date or Congress.
The LexisNexis Congressional Hearings Digital Collection is available in three modules: Retrospective A (years: 1824-1979), Retrospective B (years: 1980-2003) and Prospective (years: 2004 and beyond), totaling close to 125,000 titles. An additional 1,500 titles will be added to the Prospective module each year after 2004.
