LexisNexis China Online Accelerates Legal and Regulatory Research for China’s Professional Community
BEIJING, China, July 04, 2005 - LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news and business information, today unveiled its new internet-based research service, LexisNexis® China Online (http://research.lexisnexis.com.cn). The service is the first one-stop, collective database of legal, tax and regulatory content from a select group of authoritative and official sources available in Chinese.
LexisNexis has strengthened its existing base of legal and regulatory information by adding content from leading providers including the State Information Center and Chinalawinfo.
Mr Tay Tuan Kiat, General Manager for LexisNexis in China said, "LexisNexis China Online will leverage our company’s leadership in technology and global research solutions and combine it with local expertise from government bureaux, official sources, industry authorities, China’s content leaders and the nation’s foremost legal, political and business journals."
"With this single, powerful solution, we hope to take professional research to a new level of efficiency," Mr Tay continued. "It’s our way of helping Chinese businesses advance the world’s most exciting economy."
China’s foreign direct investment and GDP forecasts continue to be healthy, at US$22.4 billion1 for the first quarter of 2005 and 3,135.5 billion yuan2 respectively. The trend towards globalisation is also reflected in the increase in the number of internet users. In 2004, there were 94 million internet users, and this number is expected to rise fourfold by the year 20103. LexisNexis China Online’s timely introduction into the market will meet the changing research needs of a vibrant professional services industry following China’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
"China is evolving rapidly, and so are the information and research needs of domestic and international companies operating here," said Mr Tay. "LexisNexis China Online, as one of the most comprehensive and current resources available offering up-to-date information on China’s fast-evolving regulatory landscape will meet those changing needs."
The service now offers access to more than 165,000 national and state laws and regulations, in addition to exclusively licensed content from the State Information Center, Chinalawinfo, as well as PRCinvestment.com, which LexisNexis had earlier acquired. Thirty categories of information are available, spanning accounting, litigation and dispute resolution, to foreign trade, investment and ethics.
LexisNexis China Online also utilizes the company’s advanced search technology and intuitive navigation system, which includes hyperlink and cross reference facilities.
Over the next year, the service will continue to feature new enhancements in terms of content and functionality. Negotiations are already underway with additional leading legal, tax and regulatory content providers to boost the service’s information offerings.
The unveiling of LexisNexis China Online follows the company’s press conference in January where the product was announced. Registration details for LexisNexis China Online will be available starting 6 July from the company’s offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
