2003 Press Releases Applied Discovery Announces Continued Growth in 2002 Company's Success Bolstered by Continually Expanding Client Base Feb. 3, 2003, Seattle, WA — Applied Discovery, the leading provider of electronic discovery services, today announced a 158 percent increase in revenue for 2002 compared with 2001. During the same period, the company saw significant growth in the number of new law firm and corporate clients, and consistent repeat business from existing clients. Applied Discovery works with more than half of the top law firms in the nation, as well as a growing number of corporations and government entities. Applied Discovery's client roster expanded in 2002 with the addition of notable firms including Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, Sullivan & Cromwell, Shearman & Sterling, Pillsbury Winthrop LLP, Greenberg Traurig LLP, Debevoise & Plimpton, and Vinson & Elkins LLP. Corporations such as Pfizer, 3M, Enron and AT&T Wireless also joined the ranks of Applied Discovery clients in 2002. "Applied Discovery continued to thrive in a difficult economic climate in 2002," said Tim Kilgallon, president and chief operating officer of Applied Discovery. "We believe this is a result of both the rapid growth of the electronic discovery services market, as well as Applied Discovery's entrenchment as the leader in that market." The company's history of success with private practitioners and Fortune 500 companies was complemented in 2002 by work with a growing number of government agencies. For example, in June 2002, Applied Discovery participated in the Federal Trade Commission's merger investigation best practices workshops in five cities around the country. The workshops, which focused on modernizing merger investigation procedures, focused in large part on best practices for review of electronic documents, and culminated with the FTC's issuance of best practices recommendations in December 2002. This included best practices recommendations for the electronic review of documents via a Web-based system. Applied Discovery maintained its focus on client satisfaction during this period of steady growth. In an October 2002 survey conducted by Open Ratings, a third-party research firm, 100 percent of Applied Discovery's clients ranked the company's client service standards as a "9" or "10" on a 10-point scale. The company's client service standards were also recognized for the second year in a row with Applied Discovery's selection as a finalist for Service Provider of the Year in the 2002 WSA (formerly Washington Software Alliance) Industry Achievement Awards. The WSA awards program celebrates Washington state-based companies that demonstrate the most exemplary service in the information technology industry. "As the electronic discovery industry has grown in the past few years, the differences among the various providers have become more apparent," Kilgallon said. "While we will always concentrate on maintaining leadership as the No. 1 technology service provider, we recognize that it is our commitment to client service that leads to repeat business." Applied Discovery also expanded its nationwide infrastructure in 2002 by adding staff and increasing the company's presence in Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles. The company now has offices in seven U.S. cities.
