2003 Press Releases Applied Discovery Increases Presence in Nation's Capital Expansion of Washington, D.C. Office to Serve Growing Client Base Feb. 18, 2003, Seattle, WA — Applied Discovery, Inc., the leading provider of electronic discovery services, today announced the expansion of its Washington office. Located at 1725 Eye Street NW, the office is staffed with sales and client service representatives who support and develop Washington-area accounts, including a rapidly growing roster of Top 100 law firms and Fortune 500 corporations. Applied Discovery's electronic discovery services enable clients to respond to discovery requests made in litigation and government investigations, including antitrust document requests made by the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission. Recent additions to the Washington office include Rob Hellewell, Esq., formerly with the Antitrust and Trade Regulation group in the Washington office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP; Michael Finley, Esq., formerly in-house counsel at Constellation Energy Group in Baltimore and previously with the Corporate and Antitrust practice groups in the Washington office of Crowell & Moring, LLP; and Stephen Faherty, Esq., formerly with the Washington office of Howrey, Simon, Arnold & White. Hellewell and Finley serve as electronic discovery specialists, managing relationships with Applied Discovery's Washington-area clients. Faherty is an account manager in the company's client solutions group, where he provides training and project management services. This team of veteran attorneys joins Jesse Grissom, director of client development for Applied Discovery's Washington office. "The market for electronic discovery services has grown and matured tremendously in the last few years," said Ken Withers, attorney and research associate at the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, the research and education arm of the United States Courts. "Applied Discovery's own growth is a good example of the increased professionalism, resources and differentiation we are seeing in this industry. I look forward to working with Applied Discovery and other consultants in this field on research, development and education for the bench and bar." Sifting through massive amounts of electronic information to locate and deliver specific documents can strain the resources of even the largest law firms. Applied Discovery's electronic discovery technology enables attorneys to review computer-based information in a cost-effective, centralized database. This allows electronic files of any type (such as .doc, .pdf, .xls or .ppt) from any computer-based device (such as a laptop, desktop PC, network server or PDA) to be identified, searched, reviewed, redacted and prepared for production—all from a central repository. As a result, companies and their legal counsel save significant time and money when responding to an electronic document request. "The expansion of our office in Washington, D.C., follows a year of remarkable growth for our company," said Tim Kilgallon, president and chief operating officer of Applied Discovery. "We are pleased to be able to provide an enhanced level of service to our Washington-area clientele." Applied Discovery posted a 158 percent increase in revenue for 2002 compared with 2001. During the same period, the company saw significant growth in the number of new law firm and corporate clients, and consistent repeat business from existing clients. Applied Discovery works with more than half of the top law firms in the nation, as well as a growing number of corporations and government entities. About Applied Discovery Founded and managed by a team of highly experienced legal and technical professionals, Applied Discovery was formed in January 1999 to develop electronic discovery solutions for the legal industry.
