June 3, 2003, Seattle, WA — Applied Discovery, Inc., the leading provider of electronic discovery services, today announced the company's selection for participation in an upcoming national CLE program sponsored by the American Bar Association's Section of Litigation. The program, entitled "Demystifying Electronic Discovery" will be presented as a teleconference and live audio webcast on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

"It's an honor to be asked to serve as an electronic discovery expert for this program," said Richard Corbett, executive vice president and general counsel for Applied Discovery. "A number of recent federal court decisions have thrust the subject of electronic discovery into the spotlight. The invitation to participate in this event is recognition of Applied Discovery's nationwide reputation as an expert on this important subject."

Faculty for the program are:

  • Judge Shira A. Scheindlin, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Judge Scheindlin is the author of the landmark electronic discovery decision in Zubulake v. UBS Warburg LLC issued on May 13, 2003, and a highly regarded speaker and author on the topic of electronic discovery.

  • Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Judge Facciola authored two well-known electronic discovery opinions in the matter of McPeek v. Ashcroft, and was responsible for advocating the "marginal utility" analysis in making a determination of whether information from backup tapes must be restored in discovery.

  • Adam I. Cohen, Esq., Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.
Mr. Cohen is a partner in the New York Litigation department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, and co-author of a forthcoming treatise on electronic discovery entitled Electronic Discovery: Law and Practice.

Ms. Llewellyn is an attorney and Director of Industry Relations for Applied Discovery. A former litigator, she is a frequent author and speaker on the topic of electronic discovery. Ms. Llewellyn is also a contributing author to the forthcoming book Electronic Discovery: Law and Practice.

"Electronic discovery is an essential component of practice for every litigator now," stated Corbett. "This program will provide participants with a unique opportunity to hear the views of the country's most prominent electronic discovery experts." Corbett added, "The teleconference and live audio webcast format make it accessible for attorneys from all around the U.S."
