Applied Discovery Expands Operations in Chicago and Texas
August 6, 2003, Seattle, WA — Applied Discovery, Inc., a member of the LexisNexis Group and the leading provider of electronic discovery services, today announced the expansion of its operations in Chicago and Texas. These offices serve the company's law firm and corporate clients in the Midwest and Southern states.

"As the body of law around electronic discovery has developed in recent years, the electronic discovery market has matured quickly," said Dave Wilner, vice president of client development at Applied Discovery. "Most attorneys now recognize the positive impact electronic discovery technology can have on their practice. The expansion of our offices in Chicago and Texas was necessary to support the growing demand for our services by attorneys in these regions."

The following veteran attorneys have joined Applied Discovery at its loop-based office in Chicago and its Texas office based in Dallas:
  • Daniel Goldwin, Esq., formerly with the intellectual property and litigation departments at the Chicago office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. Mr. Goldwin will manage relationships with Chicago-based clients.

  • Michelle Meklir McBride, Esq., whose experience includes representing Fortune 500 companies in commercial litigation and contract disputes at Asperger Caraher LLC and multi-party complex litigation at Corboy & Demetrio P.C. Ms. McBride will also manage relationships with Applied Discovery clients in Chicago.

  • Martin McKenzie, Esq., formerly a strategic technology consultant with LexisNexis and previously a network staff supervisor at the Chicago office of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP. He is a frequent speaker on the implications of evolving technology in the practice of law. Mr. McKenzie will manage client relationships throughout the Midwest from the Chicago office.

  • Jae Ellis, Esq., formerly with the labor and employment and the trial practice groups at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP in Dallas. Mr. Ellis will manage relationships with clients in Texas and throughout the Southern states.
"Applied Discovery's technology provides legal professionals with the tools to identify, search, review, redact and produce responsive discovery documents an average of thirty times faster than paper review processes," noted Wilner. "These workflow efficiencies have become critical for attorneys handling large document productions in litigation, antitrust review, and other investigations. Applied Discovery's continued growth throughout the U.S. enables the company to continue to meet these needs."

Applied Discovery's technology is utilized by many of the top law firms in the country, including: Dechert LLP; McDermott, Will & Emery; Vinson & Elkins LLP; Akin Gump Strauss Hauer Feld LLP; Cooley Godward, LLP; Pillsbury Winthrop LLP; and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. The company's corporate clients include 3M, Pfizer and AT&T Wireless.

LexisNexis acquired Applied Discovery in July 2003. As part of the acquisition, Applied Discovery became part of the North American Legal Markets division of LexisNexis, which includes operating units, LexisNexis CourtLink® and Martindale-Hubbell®.
