LexisNexis Applied Discovery Enhances Online Document Review
New version of Online Review Application increases document management flexibility and improves productivity

September 20, 2004, Seattle, WA — LexisNexis® Applied Discovery® announced today a new version of its award-winning Online Review Application designed to increase the flexibility, accuracy and efficiency of online document review. The enhanced version of Applied Discovery's Online Review Application provides attorneys with more flexible document management options, increases reviewer productivity and ensures accurate recognition of duplicate documents. Applied Discovery is a unit of LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of legal, news and business information services.

"The enhanced Online Review Application dramatically improves attorney productivity during review and ensures consistent coding of duplicate documents when that is desired," said Michele Vivona, Chief Operating Officer, LexisNexis Applied Discovery. "We continually strive to provide our clients with a service offering that increases efficiencies and effectiveness in the process of electronic document discovery."

The new features and functionality of Applied Discovery's Online Review Application augment its easy to use interface and industry-leading speed. Highlights of the new version include:
  • State of the Art De-Duplication - With full MD5 hashing of all files, users benefit from the highest degree of accuracy in recognizing duplicate documents as native files are processed.

  • "Virtual De-Dupe" for Review - Users can choose to ignore duplicates when conducting a search for review. This dramatically increases productivity by focusing on the content of original documents during review, while maintaining the option to return duplicates to the collection at a later time for production, either with separate tags or identical ones to the original.

  • Bulk Tag/Bulk Annotate - Reviewers can choose to bulk tag or bulk annotate duplicates, family groups and conversation threads. These features help attorneys efficiently organize document sets for review by relieving them of many redundant tasks and ensuring consistency with document coding.

  • Greater Redaction Flexibility - New redaction features enable users to quickly undo/redo multiple redactions, automatically apply redactions to duplicates and provide other time saving options for the reviewer while ensuring consistent application of redactions and redaction codes.
"As the number of electronic documents continues to grow, the ability to handle large record sets in a consistent manner, whether they be duplicates, family groups, or conversation threads, is critical to a successful review," said David S. Cohen, Partner with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. "Applied Discovery's focus in this area demonstrates their understanding that attorneys need flexibility, speed, and, most importantly, accuracy when reviewing documents electronically."

Applied Discovery will continue to support its clients using the existing version of its Online Review Application.
