LexisNexis® Applied Discovery® Announces New Discovery Features for More Efficient Document Review, Improved Data Filtering and Enhanced Work Product
New Capabilities Based on Client Needs Set the Standard for Discovery Document Review

October 2, 2006, Seattle, WA — LexisNexis® Applied Discovery®, a leading provider of electronic discovery services to the nation's top law firms and corporations, today announced the launch of new features to its online review application and processing capabilities that significantly enhance litigators' ability to review and manage documents during the discovery phase of any case.

"Applied Discovery is committed to serving law firm attorneys and corporate counsel by providing them the most complete set of litigation support services," said Scott Nagel, vice president and managing director for Applied Discovery. "These new features are clear evidence of the LexisNexis Total Practice Solutions strategy of helping litigators win by providing the most comprehensive, high quality set of tools and content to efficiently and effectively manage litigation."

An enhancement to Applied Discovery's processing capabilities includes the addition of:
  • FAST™ Data Filtering. Applied Discovery has implemented FAST™ (www.fastsearch.com) technology for data filtering to enable quicker turnaround, advanced indexing services, and more targeted searching by leveraging extended Boolean functionality. This enables litigators to quickly search for, find, extract and mark relevant electronic HTML, e-mail or text documents based on syntax, dates or date ranges, document recipients. This process is key to preparing documentation for online review.
Enhancements to the Applied Discovery online review application include:
  • Improved Redaction Capabilities. Users may now efficiently redact single, multiple or ranges of pages in a document simultaneously.

  • Nested Collections. Multi-level foldering means better ability to search, organize and navigate collections. Clients are now able to create multi-level folders and collections while administrators may customize a collection summary screen view with preferred headers. The new functionality also includes a drag and drop feature for organizing folders within the Collection Maintenance window and the ability to search on groups of collections within individual folders.

  • New Custom Coded Data. Clients can add coded data to scanned documents in custom data fields to ensure more complete and accurate work product. Administrators may now also create fields for reviewers to add custom data to documents, as well as predefine the fields in three possible types: text, date or drop down lists. The ability to customize provides greater context in document review and production.

  • Improved Annotations. Reviewers can now create private as well as public annotations for greater control over the document review.
"This set of new features collectively and individually increases the efficiency by which litigators can find, review and share discovery documents," said Nagel. "Naturally, this also translates into a higher quality work product for litigators to use in their case management activities."

Clients can access their Applied Discovery matters via LexisNexis® Total Litigator® - the only single, online destination offering litigators the tools and services they need to manage cases throughout the litigation process.
