Applied Discovery Boosts Electronic Document Processing Capacity
Enhanced System Speeds Delivery of Critical Computerized Evidence for Legal Review

Dec. 9, 2002, Seattle, WA — Applied Discovery Inc., the leading provider of electronic discovery services, today announced the implementation of an enhanced electronic document processing system, and staff additions to support an expanding production services division. The technology system upgrade and production team growth will further simplify electronic data collection, indexing and management for Web-based review by legal professionals, and speed data production in compliance with electronic evidence legal discovery requests. Applied Discovery continues to lead the electronic discovery industry in processing capacity and production turnaround, a distinction that has played a significant role in fueling the company’s sustained growth.

“The enhancements to our production system enable Applied Discovery to deftly handle document-intensive cases, which regularly generate millions of electronic document pages, while quickly meeting time-sensitive and often court-ordered document production requests,” said Evans Roth, the company’s vice president of production services. “The Applied Discovery processing system is built on a highly scalable architecture that enables our production team to easily expand or add capacity as the electronic document discovery market continues its exponential growth.”

The demand for large-scale electronic discovery services continues to explode, with documents for individual cases routinely exceeding 1 million pages. Applied Discovery has continued to boost its production system capacity to meet and stay ahead of expanding market demand. Notable milestones achieved in 2002 by the company’s production services division include the following:
  • More than 100 million pages of data processed in 2002 alone
  • Processing capacity expanded nearly 300 percent in the past six months, with the rate now at 3 million pages per day
  • Client data processing timeframe significantly reduced, with most cases now ready for Online Review within 72 hours of data receipt
  • Production system runs without interruption—24 hours a day, 7 days a week
“We broke all capacity records in October 2002,” Roth noted. “For one client alone, we are currently hosting more than 30 million pages of data. The client has a team of more than 300 attorneys reviewing documents in three countries. Another client reviewed more than 2 million pages of data using our Online Review service and then had us prepare more than 1.5 million of those pages for production—all in less than two weeks.”

Applied Discovery’s production services division provides a full line of electronic discovery services, including data gathering, consultation on electronic data retention plans, media restoration, preproduction data preparation, processing of more than 200 file types for Online Review, and document production.
