Stay Current with Automatic Updates from the ECLIPSE® Feature

  • Are there any cases on appeal that might affect the outcome of your case when the appeal is decided?
  • Are your clients expanding their businesses in ways that could lead to additional need for legal counsel?
  • What are you clients’ competitors doing?
  • Are there any new court opinions, agency decisions, laws, regulations, or other events that may affect one of your cases?
  • How often are your firm and your clients mentioned in the news?
  • Would you like to receive a current list of articles from popular newsletters in your specialty area?

Monitoring questions like these is quick and easy with the ECLIPSE feature. It lets you track issues automatically, at regular intervals that you choose, making it simple to put the full power of the LexisNexis® services to work for you. Best of all, the ECLIPSE feature is included in flat-rate subscriptions. With a flat-rate subscription, you pay nothing extra for this valuable feature that does the work for you—as long as you’re using a source within your subscription.

One particularly useful feature of ECLIPSE is tracking news on participants in a legal action. For example, when you learn the names of any expert witness in a pending trial, you might run several searches in case law, jury verdicts, professional license materials, news stories and other sources to fully investigate the background of the witness. After running the search, review the results and then click Save As ECLIPSE. Follow the instructions to have your search updated on a daily, business week, weekly or monthly basis.

You will be notified automatically of any cases, stories, etc., that mention the expert’s name. To get an idea of how the LexisNexis services and the ECLIPSE feature can help in researching experts, refer to the story titled: “Expert’s credentials questioned too late to trigger new trial” in the October 6, 2004, issue of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.

As you do research, keep these facts about the ECLIPSE feature in mind:

  • ECLIPSE updates cost less than manual searches for routine updates.
  • You can monitor cases and legal issues to stay on top of what your clients are doing and go to them before they come to you!
  • Updates can help in developing your practice area specialties.
  • Updates can be used for the investigation stage of litigation as a way to help disprove expert witnesses that are in the news.
