BASIC LexisNexis FOR GOVERNMENT LEGAL PROFESSIONALS
For the beginner (or as a refresher), learn how to access LexisNexis via the world wide web. Researchers will learn basic search techniques needed to obtain supporting caselaw, statutes and administrative materials, as well as how to validate research using the powerful new SHEPARD'S® citator service. No prior LexisNexis training required.
 
BASIC LexisNexis (Software Version) FOR GOVERNMENT LEGAL PROFESSIONALS
Same curriculum as the Basic lexis.com taught using lexis.com research software rather than the web. No prior LexisNexis training required.
 
INTERMEDIATE LexisNexis FOR GOVERNMENT LEGAL PROFESSIONALS
This class builds on the techniques presented in the introductory class. The instructor will cover short cuts and more advanced search techniques. Prerequisite: Basic LexisNexis course or recent LexisNexis experience.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY
This class will demonstrate how to find both federal and state bills by topic, cite and sponsor. Learn how to efficiently and effectively locate bills, session laws, current and archived statutes, and current and pending regulations. You will also learn how to track the legislative history, intent, interpretation and construction of a proposed bill, statute or regulation. Prerequisite: Basic LexisNexis training
 
INVESTIGATIVE RESEARCH
Learn basic, essential techniques of searching Public Records on LexisNexis. Learn how Public Records are organized on LexisNexis and what types of documents can be obtained. Emphasis: Locating information about people, property, and company information.
 
BASIC nexis.com
Researchers will learn how to use the special features of www.nexis.com (Search Forms, Search Directory and Power Searching) to find news and non-legal information on LexisNexis. No prior LexisNexis training required.

CITATION CHECKING TOOLS
Geared toward individuals who write or review legal briefs, this course teaches automatic citation services on Lexis.com. Using the tools covered in the course, researchers will be able to generate a comprehensive citation report which:
1. Automatically Shepardizes cases and statutes referenced in a brief;
2. Automatically checks quotes contained in the brief for accuracy and correct references to the original text of the original document; and
3. Creates hyperlinks to the documents referenced in the brief.

Too busy to leave the office? Customers may schedule individual consulting sessions, conducted in person or over the phone with a Lexis Research Consultant.
 
GROUP CONSULTING SESSIONS
If your department is interested in being trained as a group, or would like issue specific training classes (i.e., ANWR, Indian Affairs, etc.), classes may be scheduled at either the LexisNexis Training Center, or at DOI if there is enough interest and space is available.
