LexisNexis® Data Privacy Policy

Privacy statement from www.lexisnexis.com/terms/privacy/data

This data privacy policy applies to personally identifiable information products received by LexisNexis from data suppliers, which is distributed on the LexisNexis services. This data privacy policy does not apply to data collected from visitors to the LexisNexis website.

At no other time in history has access to, and dissemination of, information been such a critical element of business and commerce in the United States and throughout the world. At the same time, public concern, especially in the area of privacy, is also running at a high level.

As an industry leader in the acquisition, management and dissemination of critical business, government and legal information, LexisNexis and its employees adhere to the highest ethical standards in providing outstanding service to its customers. LexisNexis does so while respecting individuals' privacy with regard to personally identifiable information contained in its information products.

Our position as a leader in the information industry with respect to protecting individual privacy has been acknowledged by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), many members of Congress, and LexisNexis customers.

LexisNexis has worked actively to establish industry standards and mechanisms in its products and services to protect individual privacy. It was a founding member of the Individual References Services Group (IRSG), an industry group of companies in the business of collecting and distributing personally identifiable information. The IRSG developed a set of strong self-regulatory principles governing its members in their collection, aggregation and distribution of personally identifiable data. The IRSG consulted with the FTC in formulating its principles and auditing measures, and the FTC approved these principles and audit measures.

The IRSG provided the information industry with an effective self-regulatory program for use and distribution of non-public personal information from December of 1997 until July 1, 2001, at which time a federal law called the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) became effective. The GLBA now regulates the use and distribution of that information. Therefore, the IRSG members voted to rescind the IRSG principles effective July 1, 2001 and discontinue the group. However, LexisNexis and the other IRSG members remain committed to the data use portion of the principles for personally identifiable data collected prior to July 1, 2001.

LexisNexis remains committed to the responsible use of personally identifiable information and safeguarding individual privacy. LexisNexis will comply with all applicable law regarding the collection, use and distribution of personally identifiable information. LexisNexis is currently revising its data privacy policy statement that governs the collection, use and sale of this information. The LN Data Privacy Policy includes principles on education, security, notice, choice, access and correctability, children and compliance. Once finalized, the revised LexisNexis Data Privacy Policy will be posted on this website.
