MIAMI – (AP) Holland & Knight announced today that Miami partner Steve Sonberg has been elected Managing Partner of the 1,150-lawyer firm. Sonberg, 60, will begin his five-year term April 15th, replacing Howell W. Melton, Jr., who announced last month that he would not seek another term.

A partner with Holland & Knight for the last 15 years, Sonberg served as Chair of the firm's 375-person Business Law Section for the past five years. Previously, he served as a member of the firm's Directors Committee for eight years, and led the firm's corporate practice in South Florida.
With more than 30 years of legal experience, Sonberg is a corporate lawyer who has practiced primarily in the areas of domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, and securities law. He has advised public and private companies, boards of directors, board committees, and corporate executives. His clients have included, among others, pharmaceutical, transportation, and technology companies.
Sonberg is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, and served as Chairman of the Board from 1990-1996.
Sonberg is recognized in Best Lawyers in America and in Chambers USA. A native of New York, he has an undergraduate degree in Accounting and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University. He earned his law degree at the University of Miami.
