Marion County Court, IN has finalized December 11th, 2012 as the day to hold their annual Electronic Filing and Local Rules Seminar. The details on the location and exact time are still being worked out, but firms should mark their calenders for December 11, 2012.

It is anticipated that the Mass Tort litigation will cover much of the mornings agenda. The Marion County Local Rules will be discussed along with a demonstration on how to electronically file and serve documents into the mass tort litigation. The File & Serve representatives will also review searches, alerts, billing information, tracked itmes, etc.

The afternoon agenda will cover electronic filing and service for both civil cases and mortgage foreclosure and collection case types. File & Serve welcomes firms who are new to File & Serve and interested in learning about the process along with our existing customers who may want to learn some of the advanced features. File & Serve will send the event details when the location and times have been finalized.

Important Notice: File & Serve Unavailable on July 21, 2012, Due to System Upgrade

File & Serve will be unavailable on Saturday, July 21, 2012from 12:01 AM PT to no later than 11:59 PM PT on Sunday July 22, 2012 due to a planned system upgrade. The upgrade will be limited to the deployment of our new PDF document conversion platform.

File & Serve has decided to upgrade to a new PDF conversion platform due to the current platform simply having become outdated. Being outdated, our current conversion platform cannot always support the newer versions of software and file formats that our end-users are utilizing. We are upgrading from an Adobe-based platform to a platform called ABCpdf.

The ABCpdf platform is a flexible platform that supports a vast range of both image (TIFF, GIFF, JPEG, etc.) and document (DOC, WPD, RTF, etc.) file formats. It also supports a large range of PDF file formats – more than our current conversion platform supports – which will make our new conversion platform 100% PDF compatible.

Users will be migrated to the new PDF conversion platform in phases to provide a seamless transition for our customers and the site will be made available as soon as the system upgrade has been completed.

Multidistrict Litigation Cases Hearing Scheduled for July 26, 2012 in Cleveland, OH

The United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has scheduled a hearing session to consider several matters. The session will be held on July 26, 2012 at the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse, Ceremonial Courtroom, 801 West Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. Oral argument will commence at 9:30 a.m.

38th Annual Colorado Family Support Council Training Conference

The Colorado Family Support Council is a nonprofit organization that trains individuals and agencies on the laws and procedures related to child support establishment and enforcement. Their 38th annual training conference will be from June 3, 2012 to June 6, 2012 at Beaver Run in Breckenridge, CO. The conference will provide two days of training and networking opportunities.

File & Serve is very dynamic and is used in a variety of case types including Child Support Enforcement. Beyond E-filing and E-service functionality, these agencies also use the File & Serve search tools to locate parents who are behind in their payments. Many times these parents are involved in different cases somewhere else in Colorado and File & Serve Searches and Alerts have made it possible to locate them to issue garnishments, and enforce payments.

Dan Savage, the Deputy Project Manager for El Paso County Child Support Services, operated by YoungWilliams, PC, lauds File & Serve, “The Lexis-Nexis process has helped us become more productive. We collected a state record for a county last year, $45 million, in large part due to efficiencies such as File & Serve.”

Dan notes that YoungWilliams, PC is a sponsor of the Colorado Family Support Council and that two of the El Paso County staff are on the CFSC in addition to the President, Christina Eigel. “We feel it is important to support CFSC, which is a vital networking and educational opportunity for all Colorado child support professionals,” Savage said.

One of the themes of this years’ conference is Professional Growth and LexisNexis File & Serve’s own Barbara Swain will be providing training related to this theme on Tuesday morning, June 5, from 10:30 to 12:00 PM. Other topics that will be discussed at the conference include Child Support and Child Welfare, Forensic Accounting, and Stress in the Workplace among many others.

Delaware State Bar Association: Advanced Adult Guardianship Mediation Training

The Delaware Stare Bar Association is offering a two day course on Advanced Adult Guardianship Mediation Training, on Friday April 27 and Saturday April 28, 2012. This training is required to qualify as a Mediator under Court of Chancer Rule 174.1, and a basic mediation course is a prerequisite. The Program Moderators are: Zena Zumeta, Susan Butterwick, and Carolyn Rodis. 13.8 CLE hours can be awarded to DE and PA barred attorneys. You are receiving this notice because you are listed as your firm’s Organization Administrator for LexisNexis® File & Serve, as a resource for you to share with your File & Serve users.

On Monday, October 31, 2011, users who have set their web browser to “remember” both their File & Serve user name and password when they log in to File & Serve may have to re-enter their ID/Password on a “new” login page (to which they will automatically be re-directed). This is because we are separating the LexisNexis® File & Serve login site from the LexisNexis Total Litigator® login site. This will also result in the removal of the “Total Litigator” banner which currently appears at the top of each File & Serve screen.

Of course, we understand that some users may not remember their ID and/or Password, so we wanted to let you know how they can retrieve/reset these items.

If a user remembers their ID but cannot remember their password, they can reset a password by clicking the “Forgot Password” link on the “new” login page. Click here for more detailed instructions on how users can reset passwords.

If a user cannot remember their ID or their password, they should contact you, as their internal Organization Administrator for File & Serve, because you have the right to reset passwords and, when you do so, the user will receive an email that contains BOTH their ID and a new (temporary) password.
