I wanted to share a bit more on what people have been saying about the latest innovative LexisNexis product.

ABA Journal.com noted that “the competition for your legal research dollars just got a little more intense…Lexis will now be integrated into Microsoft Office products, allowing users to do legal and general research directly while working in Microsoft Word, Outlook and SharePoint. Users, who must have a Lexis subscription, need only click on a Lexis tab in the ribbon of utilities available in Microsoft Office 2007 and the forthcoming 2010 version to start researching, Shepardizing cases or even gathering information from Bing or Google search engines. There is no need to navigate separately to the Web and log on to Lexis or a search engine.”

Get Cases and Shepardize for iPhone - LexisNexis

iPhone app that allows you to retrieve a case from Lexis.com, as well as Shepardize the case. Be warned, if you're Shepardizing cases on your iPhone, there is really no help for you. You are a lost cause and you will love this app.

I am a product of the UC system (go bears) and I know that innovative curriculum has always been part of their history. For example, UC Berkeley is the first academic institution to introduce a department for Asian American, African American studies. These departments, I am sure at first were met with skepticism, have over the years delivered academic leaders, lawyers, and policy makers in the areas of ethnic study. I personally am vouching for this to be proven successful.

I also think that is much easier to stifle "innovation" than encourage it. It would be interesting to see/hear more about about how to formulate the correct environment to encourage "innovation" and how to avoid stifling it, as it seems that new ideas depend on input from every single person who has their own unique way/style of contributing to "innovation" and management could squelch such an atmosphere without even consciously knowing it.

It has turned into a term of corporate-speak, so what ever corporate entity is using it, defines it differently. I would seriously encourage using different synonyms. To me, the word "innovate" is turning meaningless.

I absolutely agree. Although this seems to raise the issue of what "new" really is, rather than what "innovation" is...
