And why was I picked to start this site? I think it’s because I have a varied background with
a combination of experience in the law, technology, and other
pursuits. While a “varied background” is increasingly common these
days, my experience (hopefully) brings a different perspective. I am
an attorney, educated at Berkeley Law, who focused on largely on human
rights issues, mainly extreme urban poverty in the developing world
(i.e. slums). After law school, I went to Heller Ehrman LLP, a
wonderful firm that has since closed its doors. Prior to entering the
law, I spent two years in technology PR, working in Europe for large
tech interests such as Oracle and HP, as well as numerous startups. I
also worked as a 1st assistant director on various
independent films and in production on the HBO series Curb Your
Enthusiasm. I have lived abroad in six countries, traveled to almost
60, and become conversational in a few languages. I am active in the
non-profit community, having served on boards of organizations in both
LA and SF and volunteered at hospitals, art houses, and parks.
Currently, besides my role as Director of Social Media, I work with a handful of people at Lexis focused on customer driven
innovation. I spend much of my time talking to attorneys from all over
the country, asking them about their experience interacting with their
current legal technology. Lexis is trying to build the next generation
of legal research products and I am helping.
All
this serves to give me an unusual window into the competitive
environment of legal tech. I will use this window, as much as
possible, to share with you all what I am seeing and what I think it
means.
