John Finston Named National Chair of SNR Denton's Insurance Regulatory Practice

SAN FRANCISCO - SNR Denton announced yesterday that John F. Finston has been named national chair of the law firm's Insurance Regulatory Practice. Finston, who resides in SNR Denton's San Francisco office, has more than 25 years of experience representing insurance and reinsurance clients.

"John is a fantastic attorney and has always been a great asset for our clients," said Gary Hernandez, a managing partner of SNR Denton's Business & Regulatory Department. "He is a natural leader and we are thrilled that he has taken on these new responsibilities for the practice."

Finston counsels insurers, insurer associations, and corporate insureds on a broad range of legal issues arising in their business operations and insurance requirements. He also regularly represents clients with mergers and acquisitions, transactional business restructuring, regulatory matters and administrative proceedings. Finston also has an active insurance company insolvency practice. He has represented the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations in connection with several life insurance company insolvencies including the transfer of the insolvent insurer's business via assumption/novation reinsurance agreements. In addition, he has advised corporate clients with respect to their rights against insurance company receivers and property/casualty insurance guaranty funds in the event of the insolvency of their insurers.

"Under the leadership of Gary Hernandez and Kara Baysinger, SNR Denton's Insurance Regulatory group has grown into a nationally-recognized practice, providing world-class service to our clients," Finston said. "I look forward to continuing that tradition and helping grow the practice nationally and internationally."

Finston joined SNR Denton in 2003.  He earned a J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law and received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from The Johns Hopkins University.
