Fundamental changes are taking hold in the management and operation of lawdepartments and law firms, and in the relationship between the two, Jonathan Bellis, chairman of the Hildebrandt consulting firm, said ina recent statement. In-house counsel at three companies with a Rochester presence said that while cost-control is nothing new, they are making concerted efforts to limit spending this year, examining ways to reduce outside costs as well as internal operating expenses. Alternative billing and fixed rates The 2009 Hildebrandt Law Department Survey reflected an increasing interest in alternative billing arrangements among law departments.
