LAS CRUCES, N.M. A federal judge in New Mexico on Feb. 21 signed off on a consent decree in which Freeport-McMoRan Corp., a copper mining company, agreed to pay $5.5 million to clean up and remediate three sites where it conducted operations in order to resolve a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Department of the Interior and State of New Mexico (United States of America, et al. v. Freeport-McMoRan Corp., et al., No. 11-cv-1140, D. N.M.).
