Bankruptcy Judge: City Not Entitled To Stay Relief, May Not Sue Jefferson County

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The federal bankruptcy judge presiding over the Chapter 9 proceeding of Jefferson County, Ala., on Dec. 19 ruled that the City of Birmingham was not entitled to relief from the automatic stay to pursue litigation against the county for its decision to close parts of the county hospital as a cost-saving measure (In Re: Jefferson County, Ala., No. 11-05736, Chapter 9, N.D. Ala. Bkcy.).
