Meet Me: David Nimmer
Named one of the 25 Most Influential People in IP by The American Lawyer
His surname is synonymous with the authoritative voice on copyright treatise, yet David Nimmer's modest explanation for his interest in this area of law is "strictly hereditary." His father, Professor Melville B. Nimmer, was once house counsel at Paramount Studios, and it was the movies that piqued his interest in copyright protection. The rest, as is said, is history, with David Nimmer continuing with the work his father started and has, since 1985, updated and revised Nimmer on Copyright®. He also contributes to other books, publishes influential articles and lectures-all of this in addition to his work with Irell & Manella LLP.
When Mr. Nimmer isn't writing about copyright, he's...well, writing about copyright. His current project, a year and a half in the making with a co-author, is a book on copyright, From Maimonides to Microsoft, soon to be published. And with the 50th anniversary of Nimmer on Copyright approaching, Mr. Nimmer has begun planning for this golden celebration.
