Inasmuch as these forums require a signature from posters, is there any way to configure my access to create a default signature that will be added to each of my outgoing posts?

Yes, and you have already done it! Look at your recent posts, including this one.

The How To for signatures is described in the FAQ and in the Email message you receive when you first join the Forums. Because the FAQ is more than two months old, it is possible that you cannot see it in  How to Use the Forums. If that is so:
  1. Go to How to Use the Forums.
  2. Scroll to the bottom.
  3. Click on the button: "Forum Options"
  4. In the Date Filter field, choose: Show All
Here is what the FAQ says about setting up your Signature:

You should edit your Bio, or include an automatic signature, with each of your posts. This can be done by pressing the Signed in as [your name] link in the upper right hand corner of the Forum.
