Al Lurie is one of the grand masters of the pension universe. But he keeps vowing to himself that if the government and the courts ever stop churning out new benefits rulings, he'll return to his first love, sports writing. It's a love affair that began when he covered football for his Cornell college paper at a time the team was briefly the number-one-ranked team in the country.
While he's waiting for that admittedly "will-of-the-wisp dream" to come true, Al continues to practice law and contribute his insight to a wide variety of publications, including serving as General Editor of the Bender's Federal Income Taxation of Retirement Plans treatise. He's also the first-ever recipient of the American Bar Association Tax Section Lifetime Employee Benefits Achievement Award.
You can catch his tax law podcast on classification of cash balance plans and his commentary Defined Benefit Plan Meltdowns: Victims of the Current Crisis on LexisNexis Tax Law Center right now.
