Ellen Clarke has been with Mendes & Mount since 1984, and has been an Equity Partner since 1994.  Throughout her career she has counseled insurers and reinsurers on complex reinsurance coverage matters.  Most recently, she been involved in property reinsurance cases, including those arising out of September 11, and the 2004 hurricanes and Hurricane Katrina.  Previously, most of her work involved long tail claims such as asbestos, pollution and toxic tort matters under all types of reinsurance arrangements. These cases often involve questions of loss accumulation and allocation.

Ellen has also acted as monitoring counsel to insurers and reinsurers in high exposure cases, and has represented insurers faced with complex product liability cases.  Before joining Mendes, she held various claim positions at INA, starting in Marine & Aviation, and ending as a home office supervisor at INAPRO (the professional liability division). 

Ellen is admitted to practice in New York.  She is a member of the ABA, ARIAS, and APIW.

Sallie Kraus is an attorney specializing in complex insurance coverage litigation. Sallie was formerly an associate with Mendes and Mount and is now a claim consultant at  Axa Liabilities Managers.  She  has worked in the insurance industry since 1991, focusing on  environmental, mass tort and product liability claims under direct and reinsurance coverage.  She has experience in most casualty and specialty  lines. From 1995 to 2007, Sallie was an officer with General Re where she managed assumed claim portfolios also researched emerging tissues, organized seminars for clients and edited publications on product liability, litigation management and technology tools. 

             Sallie received her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University where she was an editor on the Moot Court Board and co-founder of the school’s Environmental Law Society. She  earned her B.A. cum laude from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University. Prior to attending law school, she worked in planning and public finance.

 Sallie is admitted to the bar in New York and Connecticut.
