John S. Paniaguas

Partner, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP; Adjunct Professor, DePaul University College of Law

Mr. Paniaguas is a member of the adjunct faculty at the DePaul University College of Law where he has taught Patent Law and currently teaches Advanced Patent Law. He the past Chairman of the DePaul University College of Law Advisory Board for the Center for Intellectual Property and Information Technology (CIPLIT) and is currently a member of the Board of Advisors. Mr. Paniaguas has also testified as an expert witness in a patent malpractice case. In 2004, Mr. Paniaguas was awarded the Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman Pro Bono Award for patent law work he performs for inventors and artists. Mr. Paniaguas has also been selected as a Leading Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.

Mr. Paniaguas graduated from Purdue University with a B.S.E. in 1973 and from the DePaul University College of Law in 1982. Mr. Paniaguas is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and Indiana, has more than 10 years of experience as an electrical engineer, and was formerly in-house patent counsel for the McGraw Edison Company and Motorola. He is a member of the bars of the States of Illinois and Indiana, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Paniaguas was formerly a Partner in the patent specialty firms of Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery and Mason, Kolehmainen, Rathburn & Wyss.
