Laurie E. Leader

Clinical Professor of Law

As a Clinical Professor of Law, Laurie Leader represents both plaintiffs and defendants in labor and employment matters. Professor Leader worked in private practice before joining the Chicago-Kent College of Law faculty. She is a regular speaker on a wide variety of labor and employment topics and represents both employees and employers before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts.

Professor Leader has authored several articles and two Matthew Bender treatises: Drafting Employment and Termination Agreements (Matthew Bender & Co.) (1993) and Wages and Hours: Law and Practice.

Professor Leader was contributing author to two other Matthew Bender & Co. treatises: Labor Law (1983-86), which analyzed wage-hour and federal and state employment discrimination laws, and Business Organizations (1992), for which she contributed chapters analyzing Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Equal Pay Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1866. She also serves as the revision author for LexisNexis Matthew Bender publication Rabkin & Johnson, Current Legal Forms with Tax Analysis--Vol. 13 on Employment and Termination Agreements and Vol. 17 on Stock Options and other Incentive Agreements, each of which are updated annually.

Professor Leader also authored a book chapter titled How to Evaluate and Investigate a Plaintiff's Employment Discrimination Case in IICLE's Employment Discrimination Handbook. Professor Leader currently serves on the editorial board of LexisNexis Matthew Bender's Labor and Employment Newsletter, and regularly contributes wage-hour articles to that monthly publication.

Professor Leader earned an A.B. from Washington University in St. Louis, where she graduated magna *** laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She received a J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University. While at Cleveland-Marshall, she was Executive Editor of the Cleveland State Law Review and taught a legal research and writing class to first-year students.
