Supreme Court on Oct. 12 denied a petition filed by
a Pennsylvania woman seeking review of a Third Circuit ruling. The
Circuit Court affirmed a directed verdict in favor of her mortgage lender and
loan servicer in a dispute over an adjustable-rate mortgage loan;

claims
that a Pennsylvania hotel unlawfully denied a Connecticut church group
accommodations will proceed as a class action. A Connecticut federal judge
certified a class made up of members of the Macedonia Church and their
relatives and friends who participated in a church trip to Lancaster,
Pennsylvania in the summer of 2004, and were denied accommodations at the
Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center. The church members say it
was because of their race; and
- the Supreme
Court has invited the acting solicitor general of the United States to file
briefs regarding the government's position in a case, in which investors of
Halliburton allege the company made false statements about its potential
liability in asbestos cases.
