Kerrin Slattery is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a member of the Health Department, Kerrin maintains a general health law practice, focusing her practice on the representation of hospitals and health systems. She has significant experience in all aspects of health law transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, joint ventures and system restructurings for hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers. Kerrin also advises hospital and health system clients on regulatory compliance with licensure, accreditation and other state and federal regulatory matters. She works with numerous Catholic healthcare organizations and their sponsoring congregations and works closely with the Firm's canon lawyer in structuring transactions and advising Catholic organization clients.
 
Kerrin is ranked as a leading lawyer in health care law in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2008 and 2009).
 
Kerrin is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and is admitted to practice in Illinois. She has served as an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Keith Staats is counsel in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. He is a member of the Tax Department.
 
Prior to joining McDermott, Keith was a Director of State and Local Tax Services for a major Chicago-based accounting firm. He provided clients with state tax compliance, planning and consulting services, including review of tax state income tax and sales tax filings, identification of tax savings opportunities and audit vulnerabilities, and audit defense.
 
Keith also served as General Counsel for the Illinois Department of Revenue. As General Counsel, Keith was directly involved in the development of Illinois tax policy. He drafted and adopted regulations; issued private letter rulings; evaluated tax-related legislation proposed by the Illinois General Assembly; worked on tax legislation proposed by the governor; and provided testimony to legislative committees. In addition, he oversaw all tax-related litigation involving the department.
 
Keith is a frequent speaker on tax matters before groups that have included the Committee on State Taxation, the Tax Executives’ Institute, the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and the Chicago Tax Club. He also speaks at training seminars sponsored by organizations such as the Taxpayers’ Federation of Illinois and the Illinois CPA Society.
 
Keith is admitted to the Illinois Bar. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the State and Local Tax Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. He is a professional affiliate member of the Illinois CPA Society, a member of the State and Local Tax Committee of the CPA Society, and past Chairman of the Committee. Keith is a member of the Illinois Department of Revenue’s Director’s Advisory Committee and the department’s Audit Advisory Committee.

Michael N. Fine is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. He is a member of the Firm’s Health Law Department.
 
Prior to joining McDermott, Michael was an associate for an international law firm in Washington, D.C.   There, Michael represented individuals, corporations and partnerships regarding federal income taxation issues, including planning and transactional matters, audit and controversy matters, and those involving tax-exempt organizations. He also has experience researching and analyzing issues such as intermediate sanctions, charitable donations of partial interests in property and the federal tax treatment of international structured finance transactions. Michael has assisted organizations in obtaining tax exemption from the Internal Revenue Service.
 
While at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Michael was a Senior Editor of the Journal of International Economic Law and represented nonprofit corporations through the Gittis Small Business Clinic.
 
Michael is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
