What do I do If I receive Extended Error 5 when I try to sign on to LexisNexis Research Software?
This error message occurs when you cannot connect to the LexisNexis services using the Modem Attached to PC method. The following steps clear most Extended Error 5 conditions:
1. Verify-through the Task Manager for Windows 95, 98, or NT-that no other communications program, such as WinFax, PC Anywhere, or America Online(AOL) is using the COM PORT. 
2. Close all applications and relaunch the LexisNexis
Research Software.
3. Ensure that you are using the correct COM PORT in the LexisNexis

4. Shut down and restart the computer, then relaunch your LexisNexis
Research Software.
