Patronís Query:

My assignment is to select a bill currently under consideration by Congress that interests me, report on the status of the bill to date, and submit brief biweekly reports tracking the progress of the bill.  How do I go about finding a bill that interests me?

Objective

Find an interesting bill currently under consideration by Congress

Starting Info:

Bill must be under current consideration and should be on a topic that interests the student

  1. Selects Political News/Hot Topics from the left-hand navigation bar.

  2. Selects the Hot Bills & Hot Topics tab, and clicks on the Go to Hot Bills & Hot Topics link.

  3. Asks the student to choose a bill by topic from the Hot Bills under Consideration list.

  4. Clicks on the bill chosen to access the bill text, bill tracking report, and Congressional  Record excerpts.

  5. Explains to the student that once the topic is chosen and the material on the Hot Bills site is accessed, he should use the Legislative Histories, Bills & Laws Search to obtain additional and updated material.

Search Tip:  Use Hot Bills to choose a topic, and then go into the Legislative Histories, Bills, and Laws Search to find out more about the bill in which you are interested.   Also, note that the Hot Bills site is updated frequently with new material so an ongoing tracking project requires the user to use the Bill Tracking search option in the Legislative Histories, Bills & Laws search.
