How is AlaCarte different from Google?
LexisNexis® AlaCarte is designed especially for small- to medium-sized businesses that need convenient access to reliable, high-quality research. AlaCarte is a gateway to more than 20,000 premium newspaper and magazine articles, company and industry reports, and legal data. Like Google, it is free to search the database and there are no subscription requirements or registration fees. The average cost per document is only $3.
What is in a Full Text Article?
Each article on LexisNexis AlaCarte! has the following components. The words you searched for will be highlighted in the article and/or headline.
- Headline — This is the headline as it appeared in the publication.
- Publication — This is the name of the publication, followed by the section of the publication in which the article appears. AlaCarte! lets you search more than 20,000 sources and over 3.8 billion documents, providing access to items not available on free search services.
- Date — This is the date the article was published. All articles returned to AlaCarte! from searching in Google will be from the last 90 days.
- Byline — This is who wrote the article.
- # words — This is the total number of words in the article. The first 30 words are displayed in the article preview. The number of words in an article may help you decide whether or not you want to view that item. That is, if there are only 100 words in one article, and there is another similar article that has 1000 words, you may want to choose the larger article — also considering the other items, like source, recency, and who wrote the article.
- Text — This is the full text of the article.
After I view an article, can I see it again later?
Yes. To see any items you've already viewed on LexisNexis AlaCarte! again during the next 90 days, log in to AlaCarte and select "My Docs" from the "My AlaCarte! " menu located on the top navigation bar. You can view any item in this list at no additional charge.
What can I do after I read the article?
After you've finished reviewing the full article, you can print the article, view more headlines on that topic, or search within LexisNexis AlaCarte! for information on other topics, using these links.
Print — Click the Print icon or link to open a printer-friendly version of the article in a new browser window, then use your browser's print command to send the article to your printer.
- "View more headlines on this topic" link — Click this link to see articles related to the article you selected from your Google results.
- Search LexisNexis AlaCarte! — Use the text box in this section to enter new terms to search for in LexisNexis AlaCarte!, then click Free Search.
Am I charged for printing the files I view?
You are charged a one-time fee for viewing items. You may access all the documents you have previously viewed, at no additional charge, for up to 90 days. To access your documents, after signing in to AlaCarte!, go to the "My AlaCarte!" menu located on the top navigation bar in LexisNexis AlaCarte! and select "My Docs" for a list of all the documents you have viewed within the last 90 days. There are no additional fees related to printing the files.
Can I download the files I view?
Downloading is prohibited under LexisNexis terms and conditions to which you agree when you become a registered user.
What credit cards do you accept?
You may use MasterCard, Visa, or American Express to purchase documents on LexisNexis AlaCarte!.
Can I pay by PayPal?
No, we currently do not accept PayPal payments; however, additional payment options may be available in the future. All registered users who opt to receive product updates via email will be notified when new options are available.
Can I use a debit card?
Yes, you can use any debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo on it.
How do I update my account information?
When you need to modify your account information (such as your email address, credit card information, or password), follow these steps:
- Sign in to AlaCarte! at the Sign In screen.
- Click the My Docs link on the right side of the screen to access the My AlaCarte area.
- Choose My Account from the My AlaCarte menu.
- Click either the "Edit Personal Data" link or the "Edit Account Data" link.
- When you finish modifying your information, click the Submit button, then click the Continue button on the resulting confirmation screen.
- If you want to conduct another search, click the tab for the type of research you want to do (that is, "Research", "Business Intelligence", or "Search by Source(s)").
How is LexisNexis AlaCarte! different from subscriber-based LexisNexis products?
LexisNexis AlaCarte! was developed to meet the demands of small business professionals who need reliable and easily accessible information on a just-in-time or periodic basis. The primary difference between LexisNexis subscription-based offerings and LexisNexis AlaCarte! is the breadth of content and level of service provided:
- LexisNexis AlaCarte! offers access to more than 20,000 sources and over 3.8 billion documents at a per-document cost.
- Subscription-based LexisNexis products offer access to more than 32,000 sources and more than 6 billion searchable documents.
