You want the fastest performance possible when you're using the LexisNexis® Quicklaw™ research service.

Several factors affect performance while using the Quicklaw research service, including the speed of your Internet Service Provider (ISP), the speed of your processor, and your own internal network. If you are experiencing slow access times because of high traffic or other problems, please contact your ISP. LexisNexis cannot control the access times of your internet service provider and cannot issue credits for problems related to your ISP.

Following are some recommendations for optimum performance:

Any current generation processor is recommended

256 MB or higher is recommended

Note: If you generally run multiple applications or browser windows simultaneously, this may affect memory and overall performance so higher RAM is recommended.

Connection Methods
ISDN, ADSL or cable modem wired or wireless connection is recommended

LAN Connection
A TCP/IP connection of suitable speed with Internet access

Note: LAN firewalls, proxy servers, and network administration software including virus scanners, other traffic on the network, etc., all may impact performance.

Are some of your Quicklaw features not functioning properly?

The Microsoft Corporation has issued a service pack SP2 update designed to address security concerns affecting users of Internet Explorer 6 and the XP operating system. Included in the service pack are a firewall and a pop-up blocker that are defaulted to "on." This service pack may interfere with certain Quicklaw features, such as print preview. If you are experiencing problems with the Quicklaw research service, please check to see whether this service pack has been installed on your computer:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Help.
  3. Click "About Internet Explorer".

If this service pack has been installed, the Update Version on the fourth line will read "SP2".

To correct any problems you may be experiencing, add the Quicklaw research service as a "trusted site" using the following steps.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Click the Trusted Sites icon.
  6. Set the Security Level to Low.
  7. Click the Sites button.
  8. Remove the check from the "Require Server Verification" box. (This may be rechecked after adding the Quicklaw site.)
  9. In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, enter *
  10. Click "Add."
  11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 for *, *, and *
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
  14. Close Internet Explorer.
  15. Re-open Internet Explorer.

NOTES: It is possible for the Quicklaw research service to have been added by your system administrator but not be visible in your Trusted sites list. To test this, open Internet Explorer and enter the following URLs one at a time in the address bar:

For each, after you type the address, look at the status bar in the bottom right of the browser window. If the status bar has a green circle with a white check in it, the site is already a Trusted site.

If you have added the LexisNexis domains as trusted sites prior to the installation of this service pack, the service pack will not overwrite the settings and you should see no effect.

If you continue to experience problems or have questions, contact Quicklaw Customer Support at 1-800-387-0899 or email for assistance.
